Lidy and Paula look down the Yarra from Prince's Bridge

Lidy shows Paula Melbourne's river, the Yarra, often described as “the only river that flows upside down”. In recent years efforts have been made to alter this. Boat crews no longer see the river as a handy rubbish dump and there’s proper monitoring of everything flowing into it.

part of Melbourne, with Melbourne Cricket Ground centred in the background

The bridge seen here is the one in the previous picture, but we're looking in the other direction. At centre back is the holy of holies—the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Cricket is played there, but it’s for football that it’s cherished and renowned.

Melbourne can look brighter than this. Both of these pictures were taken during the bushfire season, when a pall of smoke hung over the city for weeks.
