These are so pretty, and the adults are even prettier: black with strong white markings, with very obvious bright orage fur on their legs.

I suppose grapevine caterpillars in numbers are a serious pest if someone is growing grapes to make a living. They do chew their way through a lot of leaves. Our grapes are just for us, though, or, more accurately but accidentally, for the birds. It's up to blackbirds to break the skin of each grape, after which silver-eyes and other little brown jobs can party.
