Here's the same fellow taken from the side. It's a little bit easier to see the length of those beautiful wings.
After drying off, cicadas always head for the treetops. If they emerge at the base of a tree, that's easy, but when they find themselves at the top of a gate, a fence, or the front of a bird cage, they have to fly up, and birds hang about watching and waiting. They're pretty hard to see amongst leaves, but apparently easy to catch while on the wing.
