This photo of a redback on a toilet seat was deliberately posed;
I've never met a redback in the house—mine or anyone else's.
"There was a redback on the toilet seat when I went there last night", says the well-known song by Slim Newton. The toilet seat shown here is the wrong sort, of course. Slim was referring to a "country dunny", a little shed well away from the house, built from wood and with a wooden seat that is more or less a shelf, joining the walls on three sides. A great place for a small creature to stay out of the rain!
Bites from redbacks almost always happen out of doors, although not exclusively—country people usually like to make a quick check of their wellies before putting their feet into them!
