These doves aren't native to Australia, but are common in suburban gardens. They'll be first to the feeding table or bird bath, being much less timid than most natives.

I'm not certain why doves are used as a symbol of peace. They fight, battering each other with their wings, especially if there's a female nearby. I've also once seen one attack a rosella in flight, apparently for no particular reason.
