Bougainvillea

Eighteen species of climbing shrub, or liana, native to South America, forming the genus Bougainvillea. They have been hybridized and are widely grown as garden ornamentals in the tropics and warm temperate zones. Each of the 'flowers' consists of a group of three inconspicuous blossoms surrounded by three large, showy bracts, which are white, bluish, lilac, or orange in colour. Bougainvillea forms part of the chiefly tropical family Nyctaginaceae.
