Opportunistic young red wattlebird (Anthochaera carunculata) collecting food from bug zapper

Dead insects or live spiders

Seeing this fellow so close to the business part of a friend's bug zapper scared me; "Ah, he'll electrocute himself!"

Soon enough I came to see that this was a daily routine with this young bird—I say "young", because I see no wattles—and that he obviously knew what he was about.

So, what was he eating? There couldn't be enough spiders to escape his probing beak for more than a day or two, so the answer must be dead moths and dead mozzies. Pity about moths being zapped, but mozzies are another matter!
