What is he watching, and why?
Early in the morning and around dusk the call of dozens of these birds is distinctive. I can't take to currawongs; there's something sinister about them. They take nestlings, although so do many other birds. Perhaps it's their posture, or that staring eye. Maybe a reminder of some less than sympathetic school teacher?
During the day they tend to stay in one tree for a longish time, hopping from branch to branch rather clumsily, pecking up some food or other and moving to a different branch. They don't seem interested in coming down to ground level, even if food is available and obvious.
