Lacewing Eggs

Lacewing eggs on zygocactus

Lacewings are very delicate looking insects, but their young are voracious eaters, well-liked by gardeners because they usually dine on aphids.

Unfortunately, they hunt on the principle of "If you bump into it, eat it", and that would apply to any eggs close to the one from which they hatched. Being elevated on little stalks saves the yet-to-hatch eggs from being eaten.
