Next day, the galahs did not return and the lorikeets seemed to be settling in. This gave me no joy at all. For one thing, I like and enjoy watching the galahs. For another, I have a few nice fruit trees, and lorries can strip a crop of nectarines in less than a day. They'll also cling to bird netting and bite through it into any fruit within reach. The idea of a resident pair ready to signal others when the crop was ripe filled me with dismay.
