Paula and Frits took these pictures while they were touring Tasmania. Gulls are always around the shoreline, foraging, leaning on the wind, or, like these, just enjoying the sunshine. The arrival of humans is always noted carefully, a few birds approaching at first. Then, should a crust be thrown, they erupt into a clamouring, fighting frenzy.
Their black beaks and speckled wing feathers indicate that these are immature birds. At full adulthood, beaks and legs are orange and the wings a silvery grey.
